30th June 2007
Summer fayre at alexandra gardens windsor
The Summer(?) Fayre this year
was a thoroughly British event set up in the pouring rain and
held for a large part under threatening rain laden skies which
for the most part did not do their worst until after the event.
The event was opened jointly by the Mayor Cllr. Leo Walters and
his wife and actor Kevin Kennedy who thought the weather was
good by Manchester's standards. Many charity and commercial
stalls braved the elements and their efforts were rewarded by a
decent crowd of visitors.
Inner Wheel and Merry Wives both had
charity stalls which were largely sold out at the end of the
afternoon. Donations from the day are to go to Barnado's and
Parkinson's.
It was also the first opportunity for Rotarians to
see the Age Concern Mini-Bus which both Windsor Clubs helped to
fund.
This was the last event in the Rotary Year!

Castricum 4th - 7th May 2007
A most entertaining and successful visit to our
twin Club of Castricum in Holland was enjoyed by 7 WERC couples.
The event included a welcome party by our hosts followed by a
moving ceremony at the town War Memorial and later a meal in a
Castricum Restaurant on the Friday evening. Saturday was taken
up by a visit to the Afsluitdijk (also 75 years old this year)
and the Friesland 'cities' of Hindeloopen and Workum. In the
evening there was a Club meeting offering Tapas, dancing,
music, limited speeches, and a perfect opportunity for the two
Clubs to mix and old friends to spend the evening together.
Sunday was a day for hosts to entertain their guests - some went
to the beach and others to Amsterdam. A very convivial farewell
party took place on Sunday evening and on Monday morning the
realities of the first rain for many weeks combined with
multiple traffic jams on the way back into Amsterdam brought a
delightful weekend to its conclusion.
Our sincere thanks and gratitude to our hosts.
Some photographs are already in
Photo Gallery.
Others will be added as they are received

19th March - Town sign
unveiling by Honorary member HRH Duke of Edinburgh in Windsor Great Park followed by lunch at The Castle Hotel
Prince Philip honoured a longstanding engagement
to unveil the new town signs, donated by the Club to the Royal
Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. He then attended Rotary lunch
at the Castle Hotel. Before lunch he was able to take the time to meet
and chat to all the sixty plus people attending, and stay for
the meeting at which his 50 years as our senior Honorary Member
had been arranged to be commemorated and remembered. We are most grateful for his
continued support of the Club and for managing to get to the
meeting in spite of other pressing commitments.
The Club is also grateful to the Royal Borough
for their close cooperation in this project, which was conceived
to commemorate 100 years of Rotary International. The Council
was formally represented at the unveiling by the Mayor Cllr
Margaret Cubley, with Stephen Brown Head of Highways and
Engineering. Also present were 1090 District Governor Jean
Charmak, Ron Lewandowski President of WERC, and David Shaw
Immediate Past President of WERC.

Handel's Messiah St Georges Chapel 17th
March 2007
An audience of around 600 people enjoyed a
brilliant performance of Handel's Messiah by the Windsor and
Eton Choral Society in St Georges Chapel. A reception attended
by over 120 was held in the cloisters prior to the event to
enable a presentation of an annual sponsorship to the Choral
Society of £500 for the next 5 years to be spent in engaging
young soloists to perform at their future concerts. Altogether a
fitting end to the celebrations of the Club's 75th Anniversary!
