Special Meeting 16th November 2011 - Press release by Kevin Mcgarry 'On Wednesday, 16th November, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh attended a Dinner at The Mercure Castle Hotel, Windsor, held to mark his retirement from The Prince Philip Trust Fund for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead after serving 34 ½ years service as Chairman. The Dinner was attended by current and former Trustees, including a large number of Past Mayors, and a number of representatives from organizations that have raised significant sums of money over the years for the benefit of the Trust Fund. These included members of the Rotary Clubs of Windsor & Eton and Windsor St. George, organizers of the Windsor Half Marathon, representatives of The Grand Order of Water Rats, the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club, Aston Martin and MG Owners’ Clubs who have all co-operated with The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton to organize fund-raising Car Rallies in the past, and representatives of Mercure Hotels and other sponsors. Former Trustee and Secretary of The Prince Philip Trust Fund, John Handcock, paid a light-hearted but meritorious tribute to His Royal Highness for the enormous amount of work he had done through the Trust for the local community of Windsor and Maidenhead over the years. Andrew Panter, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Rolls-Royce Rally held at Windsor Castle in April of this year, presented a cheque to The Duke of Edinburgh for the proceeds of that event - £44,441.41 – and David Wheeler, President of The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton, presented a cheque for £4,000. Internationally renowned portrait artist, Bill Mundy, on behalf of the Trustees and Former Trustees, presented The Duke of Edinburgh with the splendid gift of a watercolour he had painted showing His Royal Highness standing in front of the stained glass windows at Windsor Castle depicting images of the fire at the Castle in November 1992 – it is understood that His Royal Highness had a hand in the design of these windows at the time of the refurbishment. The Dinner was organized in association with The Rotary Club of Windsor and Eton and generously sponsored by The Mercure Castle Hotel who also gave a raffle prize of a weekend for two in a Mercure Hotel of the winner’s choice in the UK. The Castle Hotel is taking part in the Mayor’s “Do, Eat and Donate” initiative which encourages Charities to partner Restaurants and Hotels to raise funds for good causes.' |
